This section is just going to touch lightly on a few of the variations of outlets and switches available today.
Basic Switch
The standard wall switch used to control an item from one location only. See the section called ‘Basic Switch Wiring’
3 Way Switch
3 Way Switch used to control an item from 2 locations. See the section called ‘3 Way Switch’
4 Way Switch
4 Way Switch to control an item from 3 or more locations. See the section called ‘4 Way Switch‘
Basic Electrical Outlet
Basic standard Electrical Outlet.
GFI Outlet
15 Amp GFI Outlet. Used in areas where water is nearby such as Kitchen sink areas and bathrooms as well as outside usage. Read the article called ‘GFI Outlet’
20 AMP T shaped GFI Outlet
20 Amp T slot version GFI Outlet. Read the article called ‘GFI Outlet’
Dryer Outlet

Range Outlet

This is most of the most common switch and outlets used in residential home wiring.
