Donald Kerr was born in 1955 in the province of Nova Scotia which is on the east coast of Canada. He graduated from high school and took a two year diploma course in Radio & Television Arts at Confederation College in Thunder Bay, Ontario, Canada.
After graduating from college, he was employed by CKPR / CFRD television in Thunder Bay for 3 1/2 years in their videotape and master control operations. In 1977 he obtained employment in Ottawa, Ontario (Canada) and has been employed at a broadcasting station there since then. Up until 1998 he was working in the videotape and master control center. Most of the computer software used in those locations during the later portion of that time was written by him.
Since 1998 he has been involved with news editing and live newscast playout co-ordination. He’s written two manuals on the video server and automation system that was introduced and installed in 2000 and those manuals have now been forwarded and in use at several locations in Canada as well as several places in the United States. He holds an amateur radio certificate.
Donald’s father was a WWII veteran and had worked for the Nova Scotia power company in his earlier years following the war, in his later years he ran a poultry warehouse.
Donald is married and has 3 children.
Donald is mostly self-taught, and understands most all electrical wiring procedures in the context of a residential setting. There are very few things that he can’t wire. He has done most of his own automobile repairs including replacing a rack and pinion steering which as a DIY’er saved him a lot of money, although mobility issues in recent years makes that more difficult now. Drawing on that knowledge he joined up with another person to previously co-author self help home improvement websites which become one of the most popular websites on the web.
Up to his mid twenties he was as able bodied as anyone. Since the start of the 1980’s have experienced a gradually decreasing in mobility / walking ability that has slowly degraded over the last 30 years. Today he has limited walking ability, and use a cane / wheelchair and scooter to get around.
He has founded many websites over the years, adding on to that continually his lifetime experiences and knowledge.
In 2012 he retired from a almost 38 year career in the operation side of television broadcasting.
